Traditional Iranian music group to perform in Germany, Estonia

Traditional band Bamdad from Iran has been scheduled to perform in the European countries of Germany and Estonia.

The Iranian music ensemble will participate in two music festivals in Germany and Estonia in late May and early June.

“Following the invitation of the two festivals, the band will perform in Limburg, Germany, and Tallinn, Estonia,” band leader, Salar Mortazavi, elaborated.

Bamdad will first attend the 7th Harmonie Festival in Germany. Meanwhile, in the Estonian capital of Tallinn, the Iranian group will compete in the International Festival Orient from May 31-June 4.

Based in the Iranian holy city of Mashhad, Bamdad was formed in 2001. The band has expressed intentions to introduce the rich Iranian culture to the outside world, forming a more serious attitude towards Iranian art.

Bamdad music ensemble uses traditional Iranian instruments, such as the santour (hammered dulcimer), kamancheh (spike fiddle), oud (short-necked lute), tonbak (goblet drum) and ney (end-blown flute), among others.

Members of the band often use the texts of great classic Persian poets Hafez, Saadi and Rumi, as song lyrics.
